Currently based in South East London, me and my ever expanding pack (2 adults, 1 child, 1 cat, 2 greyhounds, 7 guinea pigs) have got itchy feet…we are filling our time right now with concentrating on being as self sufficient as possible, whilst holding down full time jobs and living in the city (well almost!). What we really want to be doing is living in the Outer Hebrides (did I really say that?) and earning our living in a variety of ways that we have got planned…but credit crunch strikes and we are tied to here for now. Sigh! if only we had known then what we know now…we would not have bought this house a little over a year ago, instead, cash in hand we would have made our merry way northwards. But with equity falling, we are, like so many others, searching for a way to realise our dreams still….
This blog may be disjointed, amateurish and erratic, but I never promised slick, I simply want to record our journey, how and what we grow, where we go and who knows…maybe where we end up. But ‘ending up’ is not a concept that I am terribly familiar with to be honest. I have spent my life moving around, changing direction and blowing this way and that. The only constants now are my husband and my pack. The search is on for a new house, plot of land or croft: somewhere to escape the rat race (never said this blog would be cliche free either…), to spend more time as a family, less time in the office, more time working for ourselves, feeding ourselves and enjoying ourselves! It isn’t that much to ask is it? I’ve seen every episode of ‘The Good Life’ so how hard can it be?…..(please don’t answer that!)
